Doughnut Plant

Doughtnut Plant started the trend of fancy doughnuts when it was established in 1994. Made with fresh, fancy ingredients, these are not your grandparents doughtnuts. They are still easily the best doughnuts I have had.

While they are now available all over NYC and into the evening, there was a time the only way to get one was to go to the store on the Lower East Side, and that store was only open until the early afternoon, closing when they had sold out of doughtnuts.

One time when I was there around 2005 I was perhaps over-enjoying my doughnut. The guy at the next table started mocking my facial expressions while eating the doughnut. I later figured out that my bully was Mark Israel, the founder. The customer is not always right!
