Russ & Daughters

This review is for the shop, I am not sure why the cafe exists. I strangely never ate here during the eight years I lived in NYC despite reading much about it by my favorite food writer, Calvin Trillin. But I went on some visit after I left and now I go once or twice per visit.

They have many types of smoked salmon and most of them are amazingly good. Right now the Scottish is my favorite but please try a few before you settle.

I am not ready to die, but if I had to go I can not think of a better way than standing in 50 degree weather while eating the Scottish on a poppy seed bagel (untoasted) with all the veggies. (Yes, no cream cheese, a food that I do not understand.)
